Joshua Haugen

Joshua Haugen (b. 1998) is a composer and saxophonist from East Lansing, Michigan, whose work explores the full sonic and dramatic potential of acoustic instruments and the human performer. Centering the baritone saxophone as both a compositional tool and performance medium, he employs extended techniques, microtonality, and experimental processes to craft adventurous, intricate, and emotionally charged sound worlds. He has studied composition with David Biedenbender, Alexis Bacon, Christopher Biggs, Lisa Coons, and Andrew Rathbun, and saxophone with Joseph Lulloff and Henning Schröder. His music has been performed in collaboration with ensembles including ~Nois Saxophone Quartet, Sō Percussion, Splinter Reeds, and the Spektral Quartet.
